What is SSDI?

Social Security Disability Insurance

Social Security Disability Insurance also known as SSDI refers to the federal program that provides supplemental income to people who are physically or mentally unable to work because of a disability. When you apply for disability with the Social Security Administration because you can no longer work the jobs you previously worked, you are applying for SSDI.

To qualify for SSDI benefits, you must first have worked in jobs covered by Social Security. Then you must have a medical condition that meets Social Security’s definition of disability.

The amount of SSDI benefits you could receive if you are found to be disabled depends on how much you worked in the past ten years. To begin with, in order to even apply for SSDI benefits, you must have worked at least some amount in five of the past ten years. The more you have worked and earned money in the past 10 years, the more money you could be able to receive if you are determined to be disabled.

If you have any questions about your disability claim or if you wish to apply for SSDI benefits because you are disabled, do not hesitate to call us 800-842-0426.
