SSI is a program for people that don’t have a substantial earning history. The amount of SSI a person can draw is typically less than they would get if they were insured under the disability (SSDI) program. A person who draws SSI will also be adversely affected by any money and/or assets a person may have. If an Illinois or Missouri social security disability claims applicant currently has over $2,000.00 in cash, stocks or securities, they typically won’t qualify for any SSI benefits even if they are disabled. SSI is very similar to public aid in that you can’t draw it if you have your own money.
