Social Security Disability insurance (SSDI) claims are claims where the people are disabled and applying for benefits based on their earnings and work history. If they are successful, they will draw Social Security as they would if they were over 65 years of age. After two years receiving benefits, they will also be eligible for Medicare.
Social Security Insurance (SSI) claims are totally different than SSDI except that you have to also be disabled for SSI (There’s no difference in the disability requirement). SSI is a program for people that don’t have a substantial earning history. The amount of SSI a person can draw is typically less than they would get if they were insured under the disability (SSDI) program. A person who draws SSI will also be adversely affected by any money and/or assets a person may have. If a Social Security Disability claims applicant currently has over $2,000.00 in cash, stocks or securities, they typically won’t qualify for any SSI benefits even if they are disabled. SSI is very similar to public aid in that you can’t draw it if you have your own money.
